Kristopher Moll Making the Move Back to Safety

BIRMINGHAM – Before Kristopher Moll ascended into an All-American linebacker, he started his career as a safety for the Blazers, and that is where he will finish it entering his final year of eligibility in 2021.
A Phil Steele Honorable Mention All-American and two-time First Team All-Conference USA linebacker, Moll is one of the 12 seniors on the team who is using his extra year of eligibility as he aims for his third C-USA title.
As a sophomore in 2018, Moll occupied the star safety position and erupted onto the scene in his first full year as a starter. He finished that year with 54 tackles, 7.5 TFL, 2.0 sacks, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles and an interception.
Last year at Rice, with UAB shorthanded and the C-USA West divisional title on the line, Moll filled in for an injured Dy'jonn Turner at the safety position and a team-high seven tackles along with a sack.
There isn't anything Moll can't do on the defensive side of the ball and the senior is poised to stuff the stat sheet again as the leader of a unit that has finished top 10 nationally in total defense each of the last three years.
Moll adds to an already deep and talented secondary that enters 2021 with high expectations. TD Marshall and Turner are both two-time All-Conference USA performers, and are other seniors who returned for an extra year, while Will Boler has anchored the free safety position each of the last two years as he, Damon Miller and Grayson Cash will once again occupy the back end of the defense.
The one starting position that is open was left by cornerback Brontae Harris. In contention is Starling Thomas, who returns after missing all of 2020 but started all 14 games in 2019, Devodric Bynum, Mac McWilliams, CD Daniels and Damien Miller.
The secondary should once again be a bright spot for the Blazers in 2021 as UAB moves into its new stadium and looks to win its third championship in the last four years.
