UAB Travels to Lone Star State for UTEP Series

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB women's basketball team travels to El Paso, Texas, for a two-game Conference USA matchup at UTEP on Friday and Saturday.
Tipoff on Friday is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST and will be broadcasted on ESPN+, while Saturday's 5 p.m. CST contest will air on CUSA.TV.
UAB LATELY
UAB (7-7, 2-6 C-USA) is coming off a 0-2 home and away series against Middle Tennessee.
On Jan. 28, in game one versus the Blue Raiders, the Blazers fell in overtime in Bartow Arena 81-78.
Despite the loss, both freshman Lindsey Dullard (14 points/17 rebounds) and senior Zakyia Weathersby (23 points/20 rebounds) each recorded a double-double, the first time two Blazers have had a double-double in the same game since Deanna Kuzmanic and Katelynn Thomas both did on Dec. 8, 2018.
In each game against Middle Tennessee, UAB had four players who scored in double digits, the first time that has happened this season.
THE SERIES
The Blazers have won the last six matchups against the Miners (10-5, 7-3 C-USA).
The last time the two teams met was Feb. 1, 2020, in Bartow Arena, with UAB securing a 63-51 victory behind a game-high 26-point performance from then-senior Rachael Childress.
Coach Randy Norton holds an 8-3 record over UTEP.
STING LIKE A WEATHERSBY
Weathersby has recorded a double-double in each of the last seven games. She has 10 this season, which ranks seventh for most in the NCAA.
She leads Conference USA in rebounding (12.6 RPG) and defensive rebounds (8.6 RPG), second in field goal percentage (56.6%), offensive rebounds (4 RPG) and third in blocked shots (16).
CONSISTENTLY IS KEY
The Blazers continue to lead C-USA in free-throw percentage. UAB is currently shooting 74.7% percent (224-of-300) from the charity stripe.
Junior Margaret Whitley has the top free-throw percentage in the conference, averaging 88.9% from the line.
UAB also leads the league in defensive rebounds per game (31.6 RPG).
