UAB Football Protective Stadium Construction Update: Feb. 25, 2021

BIRMINGHAM – As the UAB football team gears up for spring practice which begins on March 16, construction at Protective Stadium continues to make tremendous strides with just over seven months remaining until the home opener.
In the last month, advancements at Protective Stadium include:
As the weather turns to spring, fans will continue to see many advancements of the project in the near future. Featured in those developments will be the installation of seats, turf installation, and the completion of the video board.
UAB Football returns 17 starters from last year's championship team and looks to capture its third C-USA title in the last four years.
UAB's home opener at Protective Stadium is scheduled for Oct. 2 vs. Liberty. The Flames finished last year at 10-1 overall and finished the season ranked No. 17 in the final AP Top 25 poll.

Fans will select their specific season ticket and parking locations during the 2021 UAB Football priority seat selection process which begins in April. Each patron's order of seat selection will be based upon the Blazer Boosters Priority Points system, which rewards Blazer fans for their generosity and loyalty. All support for UAB Athletics completed by the April 1, 2021 priority seat deadline will earn priority points, and each patron will be given a personal appointment time to select their seats at Protective Stadium.
In the last month, advancements at Protective Stadium include:
- Installation of the video board has started
- East side bleacher seating continues in the lower bowl with the upper section nearing completion
- Electrical wiring and HVAC installation ongoing in the press box/suite tower
- The build out of UAB's locker room in the Southwest corner continues
- Removal of temporary fencing and installation of permanent fencing along the north side of the project is ongoing
- Installation of handrails and painting continues at the Southeast ramp
