J Paul Fullerton Selected to the All-Conference USA Preseason Team

BIRMINGHAM — Senior catcher J Paul Fullerton has been selected to the All-Conference USA Preseason Team by the league's head coaches, the conference announced on Thursday.
"It is a well-deserved honor for J Paul to be voted by the coaches of CUSA to the Preseason All-Conference team," head coach Perry Roth said. "Last year, he was on pace to hit double-digit home runs and doubles and drive in more than 45 runs from a premium defensive position."
Offensively, Fullerton was a top-ranking member for the Blazers. He ranked in the top-three on the team in batting average (.317), slugging percentage (.517), hits (19) and RBIs (13). Fullerton was ranked fifth in the conference with three home runs at the conclusion of the shortened 2020 season.
"JP can change the game - as he has so many times for us - with his left-handed bat and his catching abilities," Roth added.
Behind the plate, Fullerton led the team with 107 putouts and 13 assists with a .984 fielding percentage. In addition, he threw out a conference-leading seven runners, including three against Toledo on Feb. 7, 2020.
"His biggest impact on our program is his character and his leadership," Roth said. "We have a number of players on this club who are secure in their identities on and off the field. JP Fullerton is at the top of the list."
In the projected order of team finishes, Conference USA head coaches slotted UAB to land in sixth place in the West Division at the conclusion of the season.
The Blazers opens the 2021 season with a three-game series against Valparaiso Feb. 19-21 at Young Memorial Field.
BASEBALL AT YOUNG MEMORIAL FIELD
Fans, including Gold Card holders and students, will not be permitted to attend home baseball games played at Young Memorial Field. Attendees will be limited to the player pass list and limited premium spaces.
Attendees will be asked to practice social distancing and wear a mask at all times per state and county ordinance.
BASEBALL AT REGIONS FIELD
Regions Field will accommodate fans, including Gold Card holders and students, with social distancing measures in place.
Fans will be asked to practice social distancing and sit in available seats. Masks are required at all times per state and county ordinance.
