BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's basketball team will play the first-ever college basketball game at the BJCC's newly renovated Legacy Arena when the Blazers host Big 12 opponent West Virginia in Birmingham on Saturday, Dec. 18.
UAB's game against the Mountaineers will mark the beginning of a doubleheader at Legacy Arena for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame Basketball Classic. Tipoff for the first college basketball game played at the newly renovated Legacy Arena is set for 4 p.m. and will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network.
"It is a pleasure to be a part of something that we hope can be an annual event," head coach Andy Kennedy said. "UAB is committed to that.
"The city's team wants to play in Legacy Arena as often as possible. I'm really excited about the renovations. I can remember as a former player for our founding father, Gene Bartow, playing annually in the BJCC. We're excited about seeing the new and improved Legacy Arena and making UAB a part of this on an annual basis."
HBCU institutions Miles College and Savannah State will play the nightcap of the doubleheader at 7:30 p.m.
