Lusovsky Shines at ITA All-Americans, Blazers Earn Six Wins at Samford Fall Invite

TULSA and HOMEWOOD, Ala. – Michal Lusovsky headlined the UAB men's tennis team this weekend with two victories at pre-qualifying for the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Lusovsky, a junior from Prerov, Czech Republic, advanced to the round of 64 at this past weekend's ITA All-Americans with back-to-back victories. Lusovsky went 2-0 on Saturday, defeating Incarnate Word's Warren Fulgenzi 6-1, 7-6 (2) before battling back to top Troy's Pelayo Antuna 6-7 (4), 6-4 [10-6].
The junior's strong run at the tournament came to an end on Sunday with a 6-0, 6-4 defeat to Oklahoma's Mark Mandlik, who won his next match later in the day and is now in the round of 16.
Lusovsky, along with teammates Roman Postolka and Vojtech Podzemny, all earned wins in this past weekend's ITA All-Americans. Postolka notched a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 win over Big Ten foe Brandon Perez of Nebraska in Sunday's prequalifying consolation round.
Podzemny also earned a win in the consolation round with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 triumph over Conference USA opponent Javier Gonzalez of UTSA.
In Homewood, Alabama, the Blazers brought home six victories at the Samford Fall Invite No. 2. The doubles pairing of Martin Vasquez and Thanos Spyropoulos earned two wins over the weekend. The pair of Blazers took down Florida State's Andreja Petrovic and Alex Bulte 7-6 on Friday before defeating Lipscomb's Carlos Salas Tulla and Alex Mesquida 6-3 on Saturday.
The doubles pairing of Nikola Puric and Parker Bradbary also notched a win over the weekend, knocking off Samford's Matthew Gooch and Timothy Dixon 6-4.
In singles, Puric cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Gooch on Friday. Spyropoulos also earned a win in singles play on Friday with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Dixon.
Bradbary notched a win in singles on Saturday, winning a three-set battle over Lipscomb's David Skrabut 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Next up for the Blazers will be ITA Regionals from Oct. 14-19. Auburn will serve as the host school for ITA Regionals in Auburn, Alabama.
