BIRMINGHAM – The UAB bowling team heads to the lanes for the first time this season at the DezyStrong Classic in Coram, N.Y. The three-day tournament runs from Oct. 29 through 31.
"I couldn't be more excited to be getting back on the lanes with this incredible team," head coach Michelle Crews said. "We are building something special right now and overcoming ever obstacle being thrown in our way."
The DezyStrong Classic begins on Friday with five baker matches beginning at 9:40 a.m. ET. On Saturday there are five traditional matches beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET. Sunday will see three best-of-seven baker matches starting at 8:30 a.m. ET.
The tournament was named in honor of Matthew "Dezy" DiStefano, a long-time friend and co-worker of Adelphi head coach Dennis Kearney who passed from cancer in January 2020.
"This is our first event of the year, after having to cancel last weekend at Tulane, and our first time heading to Long Island," Crews added. "I'm so excited to take the team to wear I grew up and relive some great times with them as we create memories of our own."
The Blazer return seven from last year's squad and welcome two newcomers. UAB enters the season receiving votes in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll.
Competing for the Green and Gold this weekend is Elise London, Katie Hurley, Jamie Krasnigor, Haley Kvarnberg, Shauna Rodgers, Jillian Hulsey and Kacey Marshal.
