UAB Hosts Florida Atlantic on Saturday

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team continues its stretch of six straight Conference USA matches to conclude the regular season with a home matchup against Florida Atlantic on Saturday. Kickoff for Saturday's match at BBVA Field is set for 7 p.m.
After a double overtime loss at No. 3 Marshall this past weekend, the Blazers will look to notch their seventh all-time victory over the Owls.
UAB's match against FAU will stream live on CUSA.tv. Fans will also be able to follow this weekend's matchup via live stats.
LAST TIME OUT
UAB's defense stood tall for over 105 minutes in Saturday's contest at No. 3 Marshall, forcing the defending national champions to double overtime. In the 106th minute, Marshall leading goal scorer Pedro Dolabella headed home the golden goal to give the Thundering Herd the victory.
UAB goalkeeper Seth Torman parried away six shots on goal from the Thundering Herd, registering three of his saves in the second half. He then made two more saves in the first overtime period to send the game to an additional 10 minutes. One of Torman's saves came via a leaping effort on a Marshall free kick from a dangerous position, pushing the ball over the cross bar.
Senior Nathaniel St. Louis leads the Green and Gold with five goals, 11 points and 15 shots on goal. Junior Teodor Thorvaldsen tops the Blazers with four assists in 2020-21.
Senior goalkeeper Seth Torman leads the Blazers with 32 saves and seven starts in net.
THE SERIES VS. FLORIDA ATLANTIC
UAB holds a 6-4 advantage over Florida Atlantic, holding the series' longest winning streak with four straight victories from 2001-15. The Owls have won three of the past five matchups against the Blazers, but UAB is 4-1 against FAU in Birmingham.
SCOUTING FLORIDA ATLANTIC
Florida Atlantic, who opened the season 6-1-1, has lost three straight matches entering Saturday's contest in Birmingham. The Owls have dropped three consecutive decisions since their hot start, falling 3-0 to nationally-ranked Marshall, 1-0 to in-state foe Stetson and 5-1 to Charlotte.
The Owls opened the season with a three-match winning streak, outscoring opponents 8-3 during that stretch. FAU opened its Conference USA schedule with a dominant 3-0 victory against Old Dominion, netting a pair of second-half goals to seal the victory.
Freshman forward Filip Jauk paces the Owls with seven goals, 14 points and 29 shots. Sophomore defender Luis Sailer Fidalgo leads FAU with six assists, recording a pair of assists in two contests this season.
Head coach Joey Worthen, a former assistant at South Carolina, enters his fifth season in charges of the FAU program.

The two programs share nine commons opponents this season, seven of which come in Conference USA play. UAB and FAU have also both matched up against UTRGV and FGCU in nonconference action.
