Blazers Fall on the Road To Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO – The UAB women's basketball team fell on the road to Middle Tennessee 95-68 on Saturday afternoon, its second loss in its two-game series with the Blue Raiders, and its first road loss of the season.
Senior Zakyia Weathersby, who had 10 points and 12 rebounds, posted a seventh straight double-double, shooting 5-of-8 from the field.
Junior Margaret Whitley scored a team-high 12 points, seven from the free throw line, while freshmen Emily Klaczek and Kylee Schneringer each scored career-highs.
Klaczek, who went 3-of-5 from the field, scored seven, while Schneringer tacked on 11 points. They both also each hit their first collegiate 3-point baskets.
It was the second game in a row, four Blazers scored in double digits.
UAB (7-7, 2-6 C-USA) struggled offensively in the game, going a combined 22-of-59 from the field.
In a low-scoring first half for the Blazers, Whitley led the team with eight points. The team went into halftime down 38-27 to the Blue Raiders (11-4, 9-1 C-USA).
Middle Tennessee outscored the Blazers 30-16 in the third, led by Anastasia Hayes who had a game-high 17 points in the period. Hayes finished the game with 35 points.
Despite UAB scoring a team-high 25 points in the final frame, Middle Tennessee managed to score another 27 in the fourth.
Up next for the Blazers is a trip to El Paso for a two-game Conference USA series with UTEP on Feb. 5-6.
