BIRMINGHAM – Playing arguably one of its toughest schedules in program history while also moving into its new home at Protective Stadium, the reigning Conference USA champion UAB football team has released its complete 2021 schedule.
UAB's schedule features five home games, including the highly anticipated opener at Protective Stadium on Oct. 2 against Liberty. The Blazers will also play six road games and one neutral site contest in Week 0.
The Blazers open the season against Jacksonville State at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery on Wednesday, Sept. 1. Additional details about that game will be made available in the upcoming weeks.
UAB then visits Georgia on Sept. 11 in Athens, before jumping into Conference USA play the following week, Sept. 18, at North Texas. Georgia won the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and finished ranked No. 7 nationally last season.
Following North Texas, UAB travels to New Orleans to face Tulane in the final game of a home-and-home series. The Blazers won the first contest against the Green Wave in Birmingham by a score of 31-24 back in 2018.
Liberty then comes to town on Oct. 2 in what will be a monumental day for Birmingham as the first event at Protective Stadium takes place. The Flames were 10-1 in 2020 and finished the year ranked No. 17.
UAB then concludes the season with seven straight Conference USA games. Along with playing its annual C-USA West schedule, this year's East division opponents include a home contest with Florida Atlantic and an away game at Marshall.
UAB and Florida Atlantic square off on Oct. 9 at Protective Stadium, followed by UAB visiting Southern Miss the following week on Oct. 16. The Blazers return home on Oct. 23 to host Rice, and then enter their only bye week of the season on Oct. 30.
As the calendar flips to November, UAB will host Louisiana Tech on Nov. 6. The Blazers then return to the site of where they were crowned 2020 C-USA Champions with a contest at Marshall on Nov. 13.
A pair of West division opponents round out the schedule with an away game at UTSA on Nov. 20 and the regular season finale against UTEP at home on Nov. 27.
The C-USA Championship Game is scheduled for Dec. 4 and will be played at site of the team with the highest league winning percentage. UAB has played in a league record three straight championship games and has won two of the last three titles.
