UAB Men’s Tennis Spring 2021 Schedule Breakdown

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team and head coach Derek Tarr are set to play 19 regular season matches this spring season, with 12 of those matches to be played at home. The schedule features three opponents that finished ranked in the Oracle/ITA Final Rankings for spring 2020.
The Blazers start their campaign with two road matches, the first coming on Jan. 29 at Mississippi State, a team that finished last year ranked No. 41 in the nation. The Bulldogs finished last year with a record of 9-6 and boast the No. 89 player in the country in Florian Broska. UAB dropped last season's meeting with the Bulldogs, 7-0.
UAB will then play at Troy (11-4 in 2020) on Feb. 13 before coming back to Birmingham for six consecutive home matches. Feb. 14 will see the Green and Gold host a Valentine's Day doubleheader as UAB welcomes in-state foes Jacksonville State (9-2 in 2020) and Alabama A&M (3-8 in 2020). The Blazers defeated the Bulldogs, 5-2, last season.
Tennessee State (5-4 in 2020) comes to town on Feb. 19 for the lone match set to be played at George Ward Park. Two squads from the state of Alabama are next up, as UAB will host South Alabama (5-6 in 2020) on Feb. 20 and Samford (5-6 in 2020) on Feb. 26. The Jaguars bested UAB last season in Mobile, 6-1.
Southern Miss (8-5 in 2020) travels to the Magic City for the first Conference USA matchup of the season on Feb. 27 before UAB hits the road for one match on March 5 at Chattanooga (12-6 in 2020). UAB fell to the Golden Eagles, 4-0, and to the Mocs, 5-1, last year.
The Blazers host Old Dominion in a C-USA contest on March 6. The Monarchs finished last season with an 11-3 record and a national ranking of No. 50. Bellarmine is also set to take on UAB on March 6. The Knights joined the ASUN this year and completed last season with a 5-4 mark.
UAB will play host to North Alabama (3-12 in 2020), a squad that the Blazers have an 18-0 all-time record against, on March 11 before facing off against Lipscomb (9-1 in 2020) on March 13. The Green and Gold concludes its second homestand on March 14 against Illinois State (11-7 in 2020).
The Blazers make the short trip south to Montgomery to play Alabama State (4-6 in 2020) on March 28. Two matches in Tennessee are up next for UAB, as Middle Tennessee hosts the Blazers on April 3 before Tennessee Tech does the same on April 4. The Blue Raiders came in at No. 39 in last season's final rankings and boasted a record of 13-5, while Tennessee Tech finished 5-4.
UAB plays its final match at home on April 9 against Georgia State (5-8 in 2020). The Panthers' Vazha Shubladze was ranked the nation's 123rd best player in 2020 and was named the 2019 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year.
The Blazers conclude their regular season at Belmont on April 17. The Bruins topped UAB last season, 4-2, en route to an 11-3 record.
The Conference USA Championships are set for April 23-25 and will be hosted by Charlotte.
