UAB Women’s Golf Places Fourth at USA Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. – Competing in its first tournament of the 2020-21 season, the UAB women's golf team placed fourth overall at the USA Intercollegiate at RTJ Magnolia Crossings in Mobile.
The Blazers (+15) shot a 293 in each round of the weekend and finished behind WKU (-6), South Alabama (+3) and ULM (+14).
Individually, three Blazers tied for eighth overall as redshirt senior Tia Teiniketo (73-72-72), redshirt freshman Shelly Chen (71-74-72) and true freshman Emilia Smith (72-72-74) all shot a one-over 217.
Senior Stephenie Fowler (+16, T28th) and redshirt freshman Karlee Allen (+28, 42nd) rounded out the top five for the Blazers, while Marilyn Steed (+10, T22) and Rose Baral (+20, T38) played for UAB as individuals.
Julie Hovland of South Alabama ran away with the individual title, shooting a -12 and finished seven strokes clear of second place.
The Blazers are back in action in two weeks when they host the Hoover Invitational on Sept. 21-22 at Hoover Country Club.
