Former Samford Standout Kelsi Hobbs Joins UAB Staff

BIRMINGHAM — UAB Volleyball Head Coach Betsy Freeburg has announced the addition of Kelsi Hobbs as Volunteer Assistant Coach. Hobbs comes from Samford where she was a four-year letter winner and 2019 captain on the volleyball team.
Head Coach Betsy Freeburg said, "We are really excited about the addition of Kelsi to our staff. She had an outstanding playing career at Samford and her experience will bring guidance to our outside hitters. Kelsi's love of the game and passion to get better as a student-athlete will translate well into her new coaching role"
During the 2019 season, Hobbs led the Southern Conference in total kills (466) and kills per set (3.95). At the conclusion of the season, she was named Southern Conference's Player of the Year and Tournament Most Outstanding Player after leading the team to the SoCon Tournament Title. Hobbs also earned 2019 AVCA All-Region honorable mention and a three SoCon Player of the Week honoree. During her four years, Hobbs made three NCAA Tournament appearances with the Bulldogs.
Hobbs ranks fifth in Samford program history with 1,341 total kills.
"I am really grateful for the opportunity to expand my volleyball career as a coach," said Hobbs. "Betsy, Ryan and Shawn are all amazing and I am excited to be able to stay in Birmingham and help the team grow."
