BIRMINGHAM – UAB head women's soccer coach Erica Demers has announced the addition on Haley Skupa to the 2020 roster.
The incoming freshman from Batavia, Ill. comes to the Magic City after leading the Sockers FC Chicago of the US Development Academy to a 12-0-3 record.
During the 2018-19 season, Skupa played in all 30 of her Development Academy matches with the Sockers, helping the team to a number 3 ranking with five goals and a berth in the national playoffs. The previous season, she tallied six goals.
In October 2019, the Sockers were featured on the Kelly Clarkson Show along with the United States Women's National Team.
Her high school senior season at Batavia High School was canceled due to the Coronavirus epidemic. However prior to the season, she was named an Illinois High School Player to Watch.
As a junior, Skupa led the Bulldogs to a 17 wins and the 2019 Batavia regional title and the DuKane Conference co-championship.
Academically, Skupa is an Illinois State Scholar, an honors student and treasurer of the National Honors Society. She plans on majoring in nursing.
"We are excited to add a player of Haley's caliber so late in the recruiting process," said Demers. "She is a great student looking to learn from our nursing program. She'll bring a wealth of playing experience through the Development Academy league. Welcome to the family Haley!"
