23 UAB Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Land on Commissioner’s Honor Roll

2019-20 C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll 2019-20 C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's soccer team had a successful couple of semesters in the classroom as 23 different Blazers found their name on the 2019-20 Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll as announced Thursday.

In addition to the Honor Roll, eight UAB men's soccer players were awarded the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medal given to student-athletes with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. Joseph Buete, Diego Khayat, Krenar Krasniqi, DJ Lynch, Julian Mehl, Aodhán O'Hara, Guillermo Rodriguez and Donovan Watson each earned academic medals.

Buete, Mehl and Watson were each named to the C-USA All-Academic Team last November, making UAB the only school to have three athletes represented for men's soccer.

"Obviously we could not do a lot on the field this spring, but we believe winning off the field creates the culture we need for winning on the field," said head coach Jeff Kinney. "I could not be prouder of this group of young men for their work in the classroom, even if it was virtual. These players, Greg Green, and the entire academic support staff deserve a ton of credit for doing a tremendous job this semester with all of the unknowns that were presented. We look forward to getting these guys back on the field in the near future."

The Blazers accumulated a 3.54 GPA for the spring 2020 semester. Each of the six graduating seniors made the Commissioner's Honor Roll in their final season donning the green and gold.
