BIRMINGHAM–After concluding their fall portion of their schedule, the No. 21 ranked UAB bowling team are back to the lanes this weekend when they travel to Orlando, Fla. for the Wildcat Classic hosted by Bethune-Cookman.
The tournament will follow the format of five Baker games on Friday, five Traditional games on Saturday and one Traditional game followed by two best-of-seven bracket-round match on Sunday.
"We are excited to be back on the lanes this weekend after a long break to start the semester," said head coach Michelle Crews. "The team has worked very hard preparing for this most important stretch of our competition schedule as we approach USBC Sectionals and the MEAC Championship. We will be gone four out of the next five weekends, so it was really important to maximize the offseason and the first month of school without a competition."
UAB is one of five ranked teams in the field this weekend, including No. 7 Stephen F. Austin State, No. 13 Sacred Heart, No. 16 Tulane, and No. 19 Maryville.
The Blazers posted a 7-6 record in their last match to finish in fourth place at the Vern Stallings Invitational. Individually, Taylor Russell would lead the way with a total pinfall of 1,307 to finish in fourth place and make the Stallings Invitational All-Tournament team. Samantha Johnson (1,231) and Annie Hurley (1,212) finished in 10th and 13th, respectively, to finish the Blazers in the top 25 individually.
Competing for UAB this weekend in the Wildcat Classic will be Taylor Russell, Rachel Strogin, Annie Hurley, Elise London, Samantha Johnson, Cayla Davidson, Jamie Krasnigor, Katie Hurley, and Morgan Mullinax.
