Men’s Tennis Claims Victory over Alabama A&M

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2020 season on Saturday afternoon, defeating Alabama A&M 5-2 at George Ward Park.
The Bulldogs (3-7, 3-0 SWAC) came out of the gate hot in doubles play, winning two out of three matches to give themselves an advantage going into singles play. UAB's No. 1 doubles team of Roman Postolka and Michal Lusovsky were the only pairing to win for the home team, overcoming Panji Setiawan and Cheng Chang Yang, 6-4.
Tom el Safadi notched the first point of the match for UAB (1-6, 0-2 C-USA), defeating Joshua Wilson, 6-2, 6-0, on court 6 before Giovani Pasini put UAB up 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Rodrigo Arana Rios. Lusovsky represented the Blazers' third singles victory on court 2, topping Natiphat Mulada, 6-2, 6-2.
The Green and Gold clinched the match on court 3 as senior Nikolai Manchev defeated Cristian Bigott, 6-4, 6-1, giving UAB its first win of the season. Yang was victorious over Nikola Puric in the No. 5 position with a 6-4, 6-2 win just before Postolka overcame Fermin Ruiz Gespo, 7-6 (10-8), 6-2 on court 1.
UAB moves to 7-0 all-time against the Bulldogs and now looks forward to Jackson State, who comes to Birmingham on Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. from the UAB Campus Courts.
