UAB Rifle Finishes Second at NCAA Qualifiers

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The UAB rifle team wrapped up NCAA Qualifiers on Sunday afternoon, its final competition before the SoCon Championships.
The match, hosted by The Citadel, featured the Blazers, along with North Carolina State, Georgia Southern, Wofford and the hosting Bulldogs.
The Green and Gold posted the second-highest team score, with a 4597, shooting 2281 in smalbore and 2316 in air rifle. North Carolina State claimed the match's top spot with an aggregate score of 4644, while The Citadel's mixed team finished third (4554).
Amy Kohan shot 1151 overall (570 smallbore, 581 air rifle), UAB's top mark, while Sophia Flores finished second overall and first on the squad in smallbore, shooting 575 in the category. Flores posted a 569 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 1144.
Senior captain and defending Southern Conference Air Rifle Athlete of the Month Lilly Vonderau claimed UAB's top spot in air rifle with a 586.

The Blazers return to the range Mar. 7-8 for the SoCon Championships, set to be held in Statesboro, Ga. at Georgia Southern. UAB is looking for its second-consecutive championship after winning last season's title.
