Women’s Golf Begins Spring Play in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – The UAB women's golf team will begin its spring slate this week, Feb. 16-18, at the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans hosted by Tulane.
Coming off a very successful fall in which UAB captured two tournament titles, the Blazers look to pick up where they left off this week at English Turn Golf and Country Club.
The three day tournament is set for 18 holes each day beginning Sunday and concluding Tuesday. The course is a par 73 that plays 6,336 yards.
Head Coach Ryan Ashburn will field a team consisting of senior Tia Teiniketo, sophomore Carolina Waldrop, freshman Shelly Chen, freshman Karlee Allen and sophomore Chiara Vikkula.
Teiniketo leads the Blazers after compiling a tremendous fall in which she posted a stroke average of 72.1. She won one tournament and posted four top 10 finishes in five tournaments overall.
The Blazers will be competing against Colorado State, Denver, Florida, Houston, Miami, Iowa, Michigan State, North Carolina State, SMU, North Texas, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Tulsa and Tulane.
