Snoddy Leads UAB Men’s Golf to Fourth Place Finish in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – Redshirt sophomore John Snoddy notched his first career top five finish and shot a career-low 208 in leading the UAB men's golf team to a tie for fourth place at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate at RTJ Magnoila Grove.
Snoddy shot a four-under 68 in two of the three rounds, including Tuesday's final 18 which moved him up six spots as he finished tied for fourth overall. His 68-72-68 gave him a final scorecard of -8.
As a team, UAB shot -22 overall and only finished behind Florida State (-28), Illinois (-27) and No. 15 Louisville (-26), while tying with Texas State (-22).
"I am really proud of our effort this week," said head coach Mike Wilson. "This was a very strong field and we competed hard throughout the entire tournament which put us in a position to win. John Snoddy played some of the best golf of his career and I am excited to see him continue to grow."
True freshman Khavish Varadan was also near the top of the leaderboard the entire week and just missed a top 10 finish, tying for 11th overall at -6. Varadan opened the tournament with a five-under 67, and followed that up with a 72-71 for a final score of 210.
Both Murray Naysmith and William Walker III tied for 19th overall at -3. Naysmith shot 68-73-72 = 213, while Walker III moved up 15 spots on the final day of action with a three-under 69 to finish his tournament 73-71-69 = 213. Both Naysmith and Walker III have been at or under par in all six tournaments this season.
Ben Reichert rounded out UAB's efforts with a one-over 217 (74-72-71).
Individually, John Park of Florida State (-15) won the tournament by six strokes over a pair of Texas State Golfers in Logan Lockwood and Calvin Ross (-9).
UAB now has a month off until return to the course March 13-15 at The Schenkel in Statesboro, Ga.
