UAB Track and Field Announces 2021 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM — The UAB track and field program and head coach Kurt Thomas announced the 2021 schedule on Tuesday.
"This year presents plenty of challenges to everyone," said Thomas. "We believe we can have a good year and despite the pandemic conditions. This schedule allows us to the opportunity to compete and reach our team goals at the C-USA Championship."
The Blazers open the indoor season at home with the Blazer Invite on Jan. 15 at the Birmingham CrossPlex for the 10th straight season. UAB then hosts the Vulcan Invite for the sixth consecutive season on Jan. 16 at the same venue.
"We are fortunate to have the Birmingham CrossPlex as our home indoor track," added Thomas. "It allow us to host our annual meets that have been some of the best run meets in the country each January."
UAB travels to Clemson, S.C. for the Bob Pollock Invite on Jan. 29-30. The Green and Gold come back to Birmingham to compete at the Samford Invite at the CrossPlex on Feb. 12.
"Part of trying to make our team the best we can be and give them a great student-athlete experience is to travel to quality meets and compete against quality opponents," added Thomas. "We will get a chance to do that by traveling to Clemson at the end of January. They have a great Pentathlon for our multis, great competition in all other event areas and a world-class indoor track."
For the 10th year in a row, UAB is set to host the Conference USA Indoor Championships Feb. 20-21 at the CrossPlex.
The outdoor slate of the schedule begins with two meets on the road. UAB travels to Auburn, Ala. for the Tiger Track Challenge on March 19-20. On March 27, the Blazers travel to Starkville, Miss. for the Mississippi State Relays.
The Blazers host the UAB Spring Invite on April 1-2 at the UAB Track and Field Complex. The meet marks the first time the Blazers host an event at the new facility.
UAB spends the remainder of the outdoor schedule on the road. On April 9-10, the team travels 58 miles southwest to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama Invite. The Blazers stay in-state when they travel to Auburn for the second time this season on April 16-17 for the War Eagle Invite. The regular season concludes at the LSU Alumni Gold on April 24 in Baton Rouge, La.
Following the regular season, UAB travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for the Conference USA Outdoor Championships hosted by Middle Tennessee.
