BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team has achieved its highest ranking in program history as the Blazers check in at No. 5 nationally in the initial 2020-21 Golfstat team rankings, which were released on Nov. 17.
The Blazers had a perfect fall season by winning all three tournaments they played in and finished with a record of 29-0-0. UAB is the only Conference USA team ranked inside the Top 25.
"I am extremely happy to see the team rewarded for their efforts this fall," head coach Mike Wilson said. "To go undefeated in a semester is unprecedented in college golf and this ranking is well deserved. I look forward to watching these guys compete in the spring."
UAB is in the Top 5 along with No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 2 Pepperdine, No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Tennessee. After UAB, the remaining Top 10 is No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 8 Auburn, No. 9 Alabama and No. 10 Arkansas State.
Individually, junior Nick Robillard is ranked No. 13 nationally to lead three Blazers ranked inside the Top 100 and five inside the Top 125.
Robillard placed Top 5 in all three tournaments he played this fall and won the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate with a career-low 207 (-9). He played six of his nine rounds at or under par throughout the course of fall competition.
Reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year Khavish Varadan is ranked No. 64, while redshirt senior William Walker III is No. 89.
Senior grad transfer Drew Mathers checked in at No. 114, while sophomore Ethan Hagood finished the fall ranked No. 121.
The Blazers will look to continue their momentum from the fall when they return to the course on Feb. 15-16 for the Mobile Sports Authority hosted by South Alabama.
