BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team inked Anna Dénes to its 2020-2021 class, head coach Randy Norton and his staff announced. Dénes signed her National Letter of Intent (NLI) on Wednesday.
"Anna is an amazing person that has the full package," Norton said. "She is extremely skilled, has a great basketball IQ and a tremendous work ethic."
Dénes comes to Birmingham from Sharpsburg, Georgia, where she played for Trinity Christian High School.
She was a standout on the court during her junior season, averaging 22 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and four assists per game. She committed to UAB in Feb. of 2020.
"I admired the school but I especially liked Coach Norton's style of play," Dénes said. "I felt like I could contribute to the team. When I visited UAB's campus I felt like it was the perfect fit."
At Trinity Christian, she was named Coweta County Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Coweta County and GHSA 1st Team All-Region Team 5A Private during the 2019-20 season.
Dénes, who moved to the U.S. from her hometown of Budapest, also brings international competition experience with her to UAB.
She was part of Hungary's 2018 FIBA U-16 Women's European Championship team and won seven championships with her club team, including the 2018 Champion of Champions U12-U18.
Dénes was named to the Hungarian National Team's U-18 3-on-3 roster in 2019 and 2020, helping them clinch the gold medal at the International Youth Festival earlier this year.
The Blazers open the 2020-21 regular season on Nov. 25 when the Green and Gold hosts Edward Waters at 10:30 a.m. in Bartow Arena.
