BIRMINGHAM – UAB's game next weekend at UTEP, originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21 in El Paso, has been moved to Friday, Nov. 20 in Midland, Texas.
The game will be played at Grande Communications Stadium and kicks off at 11 a.m. CST on ESPN+.
The change in date and location is due to an outbreak of COVID cases in the city of El Paso. Both UAB and UTEP abide by Conference USA protocol of COVID testing three times a week.
There will be no fans allowed inside Grande Communications Stadium with only coaches, student-athletes, support staff, officials, medical personnel and media permitted to attend the game.
"We feellike we owe it to our team and coaches to do everything we can to play," said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "It will take a lot of work on behalf of both schools to get it done but in the spirit of sportsmanship and being good conference partners, we wanted to exhaust every efoort as long as we could do it safely. We appreciate UTEP's creativity and foresight in getting this done."
Prior to moving this game, UTEP (3-3, 0-2 C-USA) has had its last three home games either postponed or canceled. The Miners are scheduled to play at UTSA this Saturday.
UAB (4-3, 2-1 C-USA) hosts North Texas (2-3, 1-2 C-USA) this Saturday at 2 p.m. for its annual Salute to Service game.
Fans can purchase a game ticket and receive a camo beanie for $25 by clicking here, or donate a $10 ticket to the Tickets for Troops initiative which will then be given to an active or retired member of the military. General admission tickets can also be purchased by clicking here.
