BIRMINGHAM – The two-time defending Southern Conference champion UAB rifle team opens its season at Georgia Southern on Saturday, with a match start time set for 7 a.m. CST.
"I am excited and ready to get this season started," said head coach Lori Goodwin. "We have been busy preparing and I'm confident that we will be ready to go when Saturday's match gets here."
Six UAB student-athletes will participate in the match against the Eagles, which will serve as a conference match for the Green and Gold. Juniors Sophia Flores, Jordan Blankenship and Zoe Lum will all make the trip to Statesboro, Ga., while sophomores Amy Kohan and Maggie Vonderau, as well as freshman Hallie Willis, will also travel.
Flores and Lum look to build on a 2019-20 season in which both were named to the SoCon All-Conference Second Team, while Kohan will attempt to replicate last season's results that earned her the title of SoCon Freshman of the Year, in addition to her First-Team honors in both air rifle and smallbore.
The last time UAB competed at Georgia Southern was the SoCon championsips last season when the Blazers finished the weekend with an aggregate score of 4539.
Following Saturday's match against the Eagles, the Blazers will be back in action on Nov. 14 at VMI in Lexington, Va.
