Hilltoppers win shootout 7-6
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After a pair of lightning delays, two overtimes and a shootout, the UAB Women's Soccer team drew 2-2 with WKU on Friday evening - WKU outshot UAB 7-6 in penalty kicks.
Kickoff was delayed approximately 60 minutes because of weather.
WKU started the scoring off in the 29th minute on Sophia Fondren's goal. The Hilltoppers held the 1-0 advantage until halftime.
A second weather delay occurred just before the teams took the field in the 2nd half. WKU's Ambere Barnett made it 2-0 after her goal in the first minute of the half.
UAB got on the board in the 47th minute when Kristen Goodroe took a Morgan Halliwill pass for the goal. The Blazers would get the equalizer in the 59th minute when Lexxe Lipsey fired a laser shot into the back to net.
After the regulation and overtime periods did not notch a victor, the match progressed to a shootout.
Both teams scored on each of their first five shootout attempts, forcing sudden death. In the 6rh round Halliwill scored, but so did WKU's Kerragan Mulzer. In the 7th round, Lipsey hit the post and the Hilltoppers Olivia Stanley scored to end the game.
The Blazers travel Atlanta to take on Georgia State on Wed, Oct. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CT)/7:00 p.m. (ET).
