UAB Student-Athletes to Say ‘Thank You’ to Blazer Boosters for a Record 2019 Year

BIRMINGHAM – UAB student-athletes from each of UAB's eighteen varsity sports will be reaching out to all 2019 Blazer Boosters members during the annual Thank-A-Thon occurring January 27 through January 31. Blazer Boosters members who contributed during the 2019 giving year should be prepared for a call thanking them for their generosity.
"It is always special to have our student-athletes connect with our donors to thank them for their generosity," said Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "There is also a great advantage for us to educate our student-athletes about the individuals and corporations that are financially providing them their opportunity to Win Championships, Graduate with Honors, and Make a Difference here at UAB."
Blazer Boosters had another banner year in 2019 by setting an all-time record in total number of members to UAB Athletics. Through the IGNITE membership campaign, the membership base grew to 1,966 and helped UAB eclipse Conference USA peer UTSA in total donors. Blazer Boosters members also contributed over $5 million in cash for the fifth consecutive giving year. The close of the 2019 year also saw UAB Athletics eclipse $4.5 million in pledged commitments for the basketball practice facility and $2.2 million towards the new baseball and softball clubhouse project.
"Our base of support for Blazer student-athletes continues to grow through the IGNITE campaign," stated Associate Athletic Director for Development Trey Frazier. "There is strength in numbers, and I hope each of our Blazer Boosters members recognize the impact they are having on UAB and Birmingham. We are incredibly grateful."
Blazer Boosters are alumni and friends of UAB who recognize the value of the student-athlete experience. Gifts from Blazer Boosters generate funding for student-athlete scholarships, capital projects and facility improvements, and the enhancement of sport specific operating budgets. Beyond impacting the lives of UAB student-athletes, Blazer Boosters also provides its members opportunities such as priority seating, hospitality access, parking, and invitations to private events.
The 2020 giving year is underway, and fans have the opportunity to join Blazer Boosters through the IGNITE membership campaign.
