Blazers Win Doubles Championship in Tuscaloosa in First Fall Competition

BIRMINGHAM - The UAB men's tennis team completed play in Chattanooga and Tuscaloosa over the weekend, winning the doubles championship at Alabama on Sunday.
Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall
Sophomores Roman Postolka and Michal Lusovsky impressed at one of the premier fall tournaments in the country by claiming the doubles title in the Houndstooth Bracket. The duo defeated pairings from Tulane, Georgia and Tennessee on their way to the title.
While Postolka dropped his opening singles match of the tournament, he bounced back, topping Oklahoma's Jochen Bertsch, 6-4, 6-2, before taking down Mississippi State's Gregor Ramskogler, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
Lusovsky won his first match in singles play against Oklahoma's Matt Rodriguez, 7-5, 6-4 before losing to eventual champion Alexey Nesterov of Alabama. Lusovsky rebounded by winning his final two matches on Saturday and Sunday, defeating Tennessee's Jordan Chrysostom, 6-2, 6-2, and Georgia's Britton Johnston, 6-3, 6-1.
Chattanooga Collegiate Clay Court Classic
UAB also took part in a tournament hosted by Chattanooga, winning the doubles back draw. Seniors Giovani Pasini and Tom el Safadi fell in their first match, but rattled off two consecutive wins against Max Pilipovic-Klajic and Pau Riera of Eastern Illinois (6-1) and Dimitri Badra and Miguel Este of ETSU (7-5) to claim the back draw title.
Overall, the Blazers won 10 singles matches in Chatanooga, with Pasini, el Safadi, Nikolai Manchev, Daniel Janko and Nikola Puric each recording two victories each.
Janko and Puric, who was competing in his first collegiate event, won two doubles matches against pairings from ETSU and Eastern Illinois.
UAB will be back in action Sept. 28-29 in Hattiesburg, Miss. as it travels to take part in the Southern Miss Invitational.
