Teiniketo, UAB Leads After Round 1 of USA Intercollegiate

BIRMINGHAM – Senior Tia Teiniketo tied a school record by shooting a five-under 67 and the Blazers set a school record with a 285 overall to lead the USA Intercollegiate after the first round at Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Course.
"I am really proud of everyone today," said head coach Ryan Ashburn. "Breaking records is always fun. Our hard work and preparation is starting to pay off. Our team chemistry is great and I know everyone is looking forward to another great day tomorrow."
Teiniketo carded six birdies on the day, including four straight on holes three through six. The Vihit, Finland native holds a one stroke lead over Sarah Arnold of WKU and Anna Claire Little of Troy who each shot -4.
In her first career round for the Blazers, sophomore Chiara Vikkula was also under par and currently sits tied fgor 10th with a one-under 71. Her round consisted of four birdies and three bogeys.
Kenna Hughes shot even par and is tied for 16th overall, while Caroline Waldrop is tied for 43rd after shooting a +3. Stephenie Fowler rounded out the UAB efforts with a +5 77 and is tied for 60th heading into Sunday's second round.
UAB shot -3 overall and has a three shot lead over North Florida who shot even par. The collectiv 285 is the lowest round in program history.
