NASHVILLE - The UAB cross country team wrapped up competition at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn. Saturday, finishing 18th.
"Overall, Serena (Martinez) had a great day with a big PR," said coach Matt Esche. "I was very excited to see her roll. As a team, we will go back to the drawing board. Without question, we are a better team than we showed. We wait two weeks before we race again and six weeks until the conference meet. We will be ready."
Martinez, a senior, recorded the fastest time for the Blazers, clocking in at 23:15.9. The time marked a personal best for Martinez, who beat her previous PR by almost 15 seconds.
UAB returns to the course on Sept. 28 when it competes in the UAH Chargers Open in Huntsville, Ala. and the Mizzou XC Challenge in Columbia, Mo.
