BIRMINGHAM β The UAB baseball team has kept busy this offseason as multiple players have turned in standout performances competing in various summer collegiate baseball leagues. Out of the 10 Blazers participating in summer action, four players in particular have impressed during the summer months.

Incoming freshman shortstop Chandler Simpson proved he belongs at the next level after finishing second in Sun Belt League with a .402 average, .471 OBP and 34 runs scored. The Atlanta, Ga., native's stellar performance at the plate throughout the season help lead his team, the Brookhaven Bucks, to win the league championship.
Β
Soon to be senior pitcher Sylvester Toe was a force on the mound over the summer, holding opponents scoreless in 17 of his league-leading 21 appearances. Allowing just 18 hits and piling up 39 strikeouts in 24.1 innings pitched, he helped guide the Norcross Astros to a runner-up finish in the Sunbelt League.
Β
Outfielder Jess Davis, who will be a redshirt sophomore in the 2020 season, was another stud at the plate. The Kansas City, Mo., native led the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks in batting (.269), runs scored (24), triples (4). Davis was also a menace on the base path, leading the entire Alaska League in stolen bases with 19.
Β
