UAB Falls to No. 9 FIU, No. 17 FAU at CCSA Tournament

EMERSON, Ga. – Despite five of 10 courts going to three sets, the UAB beach volleyball lost a pair of 5-0 matches to No. 9 FIU and No. 17 Florida Atlantic on Friday in pool play of the CCSA Tournament.
The Blazers (14-16) now await their opponent for the elimination round which begins on Friday morning. UAB's opponent will be announced at the conclusion of today's pool play.
In the first match of the day against the Panthers, UAB had set point on both courts one and two in the first set, but FIU was able to battle back on both to win the opening frame. Kenley Adams and SalliAnne Napolitano then won set two on court two, but FIU was able to take the third for the victory.
Court one saw a highly competitive battle between CCSA All-Conference pairs, but it was FIU's duo of Federica Frasca and Margherita Bianchin who were able to outlast Jaelyn Keene and Tressa Buckland by four combined points, 24-22, 22-20.
The second match of the day against No. 17 Florida Atlantic featured four of five matches going three sets in which FAU won all of them for the 5-0 victory.
The closest third set score came on court three as Jayme Bratsberg and Annie Pringle came up two points shy, 15-13.
