UAB Hosts UTEP On Senior Day

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women's basketball team looks to close out the home portion of its 2018-19 schedule on Saturday afternoon when it welcomes UTEP for Senior Day. Tipoff between the Blazers and Miners is set for 2 p.m. at Bartow Arena.
UAB (22-5, 10-4 C-USA) will honor Deanna Kuzmanic and Maya Garland in a Senior Day ceremony, beginning approximately at 1:55 p.m. The duo has helped UAB tie the program record for most wins over a four year period, the 2017-18 Conference USA Regular Season Title and a win in the 2018 WNIT, the first post season victory at UAB since 2011 and the first win in the WNIT since 2011.
Kuzmanic will close home portion of her storied UAB career, having started all 122 games since her freshman year. The Mount Prospect, Ill., native ranks 16th all-time in program history in points (1,449), while ranking second on the team in scoring (12.3) this season, the 15th best mark in C-USA. Additionally, Kuzmanic ranks fifth in the conference in assists per game (4.0), eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (38.1 percent) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9).
The Blazers enter Saturday's contest boasting 73.1 points per game, the third most in the league, while holding a +15.1 scoring margin. Rachael Childress leads a quartet of Blazers averaging double figures, netting 14.0 points per game. The Moulton, Ala., native ranks sixth nationally in 3-point field goals made (92), ninth in triples per game (3.4), while shooting the second best mark from long range in C-USA (41.4 percent).
UTEP (7-20, 4-10 C-USA) comes to Birmingham in 11th place in the league standings and is coming off of a 77-73 win over rival UTSA last Saturday. The Miners rank 13th in the league in points per game (59.4), but eighth in points allowed per game (66.2).
Zuzanna Puc leads the Miners' offense, averaging 12.8 points per game, the 13th most in the league. Puc has turned in six double-double performances this season, including one against UAB where she netted 11 points and reeling in 13 rebounds.
Tickets to the contest can be purchased online or at the Bartow Arena Ticket Office one hour prior to tip. Tickets are $5 for adults or $3 for kids 18 and younger.
