As Senior Day approaches on Saturday UAB women's basketball head coach Randy Norton took a moment to thank Maya Garland and Deanna Kuzmanic, the graduating seniors of the 2018-19 class, for all of their hard work as he reflected on their careers.
Dear Maya and Deanna,
As Senior Day is approaching, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you both for everything you have done to help us build a Championship Program here at UAB! You have been instrumental in helping us build the foundation and create the positive culture for our program through your leadership and work ethic. You have modeled what it is to be a UAB women's basketball player. Your pursuit of excellence in the classroom, on the court and in the community and high character will never be forgotten.
In looking back at the last five years for you Maya and four years for you Deanna you have so much to be proud of!
The 2017-18 season was historic:
- We won first ever Conference USA Regular Season Title in Program History
- We set the program record for wins with 27 wins
- We won the first postseason game at UAB since 2011 and first win the WNIT since 2007
- We won the C-USA team academic championship!
In the last four years you helped our team to the second most wins over four years and a win on Saturday will tie that record. Both of you have been active members of SAAC have been present in the community in all of your years. You have actively supported your fellow student athletes and are frequently seen cheering on fellow Blazers at their games.
Maya you have earned your undergraduate degree and will have your master's degree soon.
Deanna you are two-time Conference USA All-Academic Team member and a member of the 2018 CoSIDA District 4 All-Academic Team with more honors to come.
I could not be more proud of the two of you. Thank you for all that you have done for our program, this community and for being great ambassadors for the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
UAB welcomes UTEP on Saturday for Senior Day. Tipoff between the Blazers and Miners is set for 2 p.m. with the ceremony honoring Maya and Deanna set for approximately 1:55.
Tickets to the game can be purchased by clicking here or at the Bartow Arena Ticket Office one hour prior to tipoff.
