MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Senior Rachael Childress became Conference USA's all-time three-point shooter as UAB fell to Memphis 77-52 on Sunday afternoon.

UAB (5-3) got off to its slowest start of the season scoring just 10 points on 26.7 percent shooting in the first quarter. The Tigers opened the game scoring the first seven points resulting in a UAB timeout just two minutes into the game. The Blazers scored the next four points out of the timeout courtesy of Katelynn Thomas and Trista Magee before Memphis went on another run to lead 18-10 after one.
Memphis (5-4) started the second quarter similar to the first scoring the first six points. The Tigers stiff defense kept held the Blazers to just nine points in the second quarter and a season low 19 points at the half. Memphis would lead 34-19 at halftime off 41.2 percent shooting from the field while holding UAB to 25.9 percent. The Tigers forced nine UAB turnovers with seven steals in the first half.
The Blazers picked up the pace in the third quarter scoring 18 points, but Memphis remained in control with 21 points of its own to keep the lead at 56-37 heading into the final quarter of action.
With 9:14 remaining in the fourth quarter Childress knocked down her third three of the night and picked up a foul on the play. The triple was the 339th of her career surpassing Cincinnati's Valerie King to make Childress the C-USA all time three-point shooter.
"Memphis just flat out played better than we did today," said head coach Randy Norton. "I am confident that our team will learn some valuable lessons from today that will only make us better moving forward."
The Blazers couldn't match the Tiger's physicality which caused 13 turnovers and four blocks while scoring 46 points in the paint. The loss ended UAB's four game win streak, the Blazers are now 0-2 on the road.
UAB will continue its road stretch by traveling to Lorman, Miss. to face Alcorn State next Sunday Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. The Blazers will not return home until Dec. 29 when they host Tuskegee at Bartow Arena.
