BIRMINGHAM – Just over one year ago, on Giving Tuesday in 2018, the UAB Department of Athletics announced a multi-year membership campaign through Blazer Boosters called IGNITE. The campaign centers on increasing the Blazer Boosters membership base by growing the number of supporters who give annually to UAB Athletics. IGNITE will fortify a foundation for continued financial growth and position UAB Athletics to compete at the highest level of college athletics.
With two weeks left in the 2019 year, Blazer faithful has once again made a statement by helping Blazer Boosters set an all-time record in total number of members to UAB Athletics surpassing the previous mark of 1,862 members. Blazer Boosters has already added over 500 new members to their membership base in 2019 and looks to have a strong finish to close out the giving year in December.
"We are currently less than 135 members away from growing our total membership count to over 2,000," stated Associate Athletic Director for Development Trey Frazier. "IGNITE is an opportunity for alumni and friends of UAB to come together and invest in the success of both UAB and Birmingham."
In order to track the momentum of the IGNITE campaign, UAB has created benchmarks consisting of peer metropolitan institutions in hopes of surpassing these schools one by one in total donors to the athletic department. Two schools within reach are UTSA and Charlotte, and should Blazer Boosters membership grow to over 2,000 members in 2019, UAB would pass both of these schools in their bases of support.
"The generosity from Blazer Boosters members continues to be unprecedented," stated Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Brad Hardekopf. "Let's continue to set our sights on new records and provide our athletic programs with the resources necessary to compete at the highest level."
Memberships start at just $50. To commit now and help UAB Athletics continue to make history, click here. For more information, contact Blazer Boosters at (205) 996-9969 or visit the IGNITE website. Become a 2019 Blazer Boosters member today!
