A Letter from UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram: Bowl Bound!

BIRMINGHAM - We hope you are doing well and send our warmest holiday wishes to you and your family. I couldn't be more proud of our football team and coaching staff who won their second straight Conference USA West Division Championship. What an incredible year we've had so far! UAB Football has won 18 straight home games and currently owns the nation's fourth longest winning streak heading into the 2020 season.
Your support was once again instrumental to our success as we experienced a third consecutive undefeated season at home in Birmingham! The Blazers are now playing in their third straight bowl game since The Return as we recently accepted an invitation to play in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on December 21st against the Sun Belt Champion Appalachian State. We need you to join us for the big game, so please order your bowl tickets here.
Blazer Boosters has been hard at work with the IGNITE membership campaign. If you are reading this email and are not currently a member of Blazer Boosters, we need you to join NOW. Make a gift for as low as $50 before the end of the 2019 giving year, and let's pass other peer metropolitan institutions that currently have a larger base of support. UAB Athletics is less than 100 members away from our all-time high and just 250 away from passing two of our conference peers. By joining IGNITE, you are providing the financial resources necessary to help Blazer student-athletes win championships, graduate with honors, and make a difference!
The bids for the contractor at Protective Stadium open next week and should be selected by the end of the calendar year. They will begin immediately after the New Year so that the new stadium is ready in time for the 2021 season. 2020 Football season tickets are already on sale and once again provide you with the best value in town. Those who have purchased 2020 season tickets and are Blazer Boosters members will have top priority for seats in Protective Stadium leading into the 2021 season. Build your priority NOW as both seating and parking options will be allocated based on the Blazer Boosters Priority Points System and reward our current season ticket holders and donors.
There are additional facility upgrades on the way. Both the Baseball and Softball teams will get new scoreboards before the start of their seasons, Beach Volleyball will get a scoreboard added to their new facility and we will add a large marquee sign on University Blvd allowing us to advertise each of our athletic events. We will also be replacing the wall padding at Baseball and Softball to ensure the safety of our teams. Great progress is being made towards the fundraising efforts for our Baseball/Softball Clubhouse and our Basketball Practice Facility. These projects will both begin in 2020 and should each take about a year to complete.
On the hardwood, Women's Basketball senior guard Rachael Childress became Conference USA's ALL-TIME LEADER in career 3-pointers made! Setting a league record is a tremendous accomplishment and should not be understated. Rachael has been an upstanding student-athlete since her arrival in Birmingham and we are so proud of her hard work on and off the court. From everyone at UAB Athletics, congratulations Rachael!
