UAB Softball Announces 2020 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM- Heading into the second season under head coach Jimmy Kolaitis the UAB softball program has announced its 2020 schedule.
The schedule features 53 games, 24 of which will be played at Mary Bowers Field. The Blazers will face off against seven NCAA tournament teams, four of which advanced to the Super Regionals and three that competed in the 2019 Women's College World Series.
"We played a tough fall schedule against some quality opponents so it will help us as we approach the spring," said Kolaitis. "The 2020 schedule is challenging, and we are excited to grind it out with some of these teams. We have the opportunity to compete against some of the top competition in the country."
UAB kicks off the season on the road in Atlanta for a tournament at Georgia Tech from Feb. 6-9. The Blazers will face Georgia Tech, Ohio, Furman and 2019 WCWS participant Washington in the opening weekend before heading to Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 12 to face the Lady Lions.
The Blazers will stay on the road from Feb. 14-16 for the Scrapyard Tournament in Conroe, Texas for five contests against South Dakota State, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, ULM and McNeese State.
The Green and Gold will host cross-town rival Samford on Feb. 18 for the home opener at Mary Bowers Field.
UAB hosts four NCAA Tournament teams in the span of a week when Ole Miss, Louisiana and 2019 WCWS participant Oklahoma State come to Birmingham Feb. 21-22 for the Blazer Classic.
"We are also excited to host one of the best tournaments in the nation when three top 25 teams come into Mary Bowers Field," added Kolaitis. "I know our club is excited about this season and hope our fans will enjoy the teams that we are bringing to Birmingham."
The Blazers will then play host to WCWS top four finalist Alabama in the first of two matchups in the season on Feb. 26.
UAB travels to Starkville from Feb. 28-March 1 where they will meet up with Mississippi State, Alcorn State and UT Martin.
The Green and Gold head to North Alabama on March 4 for a contest against the Lions.
The final tournament of the season will be held in Birmingham as the Blazers host Colgate, Furman and Jacksonville State March 6-8.
Bryant will travel to Birmingham to play on March 11 before the start of conference play.
Conference play commences on March 13 with a series at UTEP. The Blazers took two of the three games against the Miners last season.
UAB travels to Jacksonville State on March 18 before facing Middle Tennessee at home March 20-22.
The Blazers play their final midweek games on the road against rivals Samford (March 24) and Alabama (April 7).
UTSA makes the trip to Birmingham March 27-29 and UAB travels to Southern Miss April 3-5.
On April 9 Florida Atlantic visits Mary Bowers Field for a series matchup that the Blazers won last season.
UAB travels to Ruston, La. to take on the reigning Conference USA champions Louisiana Tech April 17-19.
The Blazers host Charlotte April 24-26 for the final home series of the 2020 season. UAB earned its only sweep of the season against Charlotte a year ago.
North Texas, who finished 2019 with a conference record of 19-5, will host the Green and Gold for its final C-USA series of the season May 1-3.
The Conference USA Tournament will be held May 6-9 in Bowling Green, Ky. Only eight teams will advance to the conference tournament with the top three teams in the East and the top three teams in the West plus two wild card teams from either division competing for the Championship.
