Blazer Baseball Adds Nick Wright to 2020 Signing Class

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB baseball program and coach Brian Shoop have announced right-handed pitcher Nick Wright as the next signee of the 2020 signing class.
Wright hails from Mandeville, La. and competes at St. Paul's High School for coach Mick Nunez.
At St. Paul's, Wright has maintained a 2.83 ERA and earned First Team All-District honors last spring. Wright was a member of a pitching staff that led the Wolves to the 5A Louisiana State Championship.
In the summer, the incoming Blazer pitched for coach Travis Coleman and the TPL Elite squad. While there, Wright was named a Perfect Game 2019 Preseason All-American. He was a four-time Perfect Game all-tournament selection and posted a notable 1.97 ERA in Perfect Game events.
"Nick is a long, lean right-handed pitcher with a three-pitch mix that features a fastball that's already in the low 90s," said Shoop. "He has pitched in many big games in high school, helping lead his team to the state championship and has pitched against the best competition in America during the summers in the elite Perfect Game tournaments. He will not be intimidated by Division I college baseball, and we believe he will be ready to compete at this level immediately.
"Nick is another great student who wants to major in Neuroscience, which makes UAB the perfect academic match for Nick as well as being a great baseball match. We are so happy to add him to our Blazer baseball family."
