BIRMINGHAM- UAB women's basketball head coach Randy Norton announced the addition of six new players as a part of its 2020 signing class on Wednesday afternoon.
The Blazers will add three forwards and three guards to the 2020-21 squad as Caitlynn Daniels, Lindsey Dullard, Emily Klaczek, Kylee Schneringer, LaMiracle Sims and Maddie Walsh all signed National Letters of Intent (NLIs) on Wednesday.
"We are very excited about this 2020 class," said Norton. "All six are of the highest character and will help our program continue to compete and win championships on the court and in the classroom. They will be great ambassadors for our program, UAB and the city of Birmingham."
Caitlynn Daniels | 5-7 | Guard | Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Xavier High
Daniels joins the Blazers from Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she played high school ball at Xavier High. An unselfish point guard, Daniels holds the Saints' school record for career assists with 342. She received First Team All-State, All-Metro and All-Conference honors, averaging 15.5 points with 114 assists, 55 steals and 12 blocks last season.
Norton on Daniels: "Caitlynn is a gritty, hard-nosed, high IQ point guard that has the ability to slide over and play the two. She is one of the premiere guards in her class as she can knock down the deep ball, hit her teammates at the right spot and shut down perimeter players on the defensive end."
Lindsey Dullard | 6-1 | Forward | Morton, Ill. | Morton
Dullard has garnered several accolades during her time at Morton High School in Morton, Ill. She was named First Team IBCA All-State, First Team Peoria Journal Star All-Area, Mid-Illini Conference First Team and AP Second Team All-State. The forward averaged 11.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Lady Potters. Dullard was also a First Team All-Conference volleyball player at Morton.
Norton on Dullard: "Lindsey is a dynamic player that can play any position we need on the floor. She is one of the best three-point shooters I have ever seen at her age, but she is also crafty at putting the ball on the floor and getting to the paint."
Emily Klaczek | 5-10 | Guard | Palatine, Ill. | Fremd
Klaczek adds to the list of Illinois natives joining the UAB women's basketball team. She earned All-State First and Second Team honors as well as All-Conference and All-Area awards. Klaczek was back-to-back MSL Player of the Year and AP 4A All-State honorable mention accumulating over 1,000 points in her career.
Norton on Klaczek: "Emily is an extremely skilled combo guard that can play all of the guard positions. She has the ability to score at all three levels with the three-ball, the mid-range and a variety of finishes at the rim."
Kylee Schneringer | 5-11 | Guard | Normal, Ill. | Normal Community
Schneringer rounds out the guard position for the 2020 signing class. The Normal, Ill. native is a three-time Big 12 Conference Scholar-Athlete as well as Pantagraph All-Area Team. She was a Big 12 Conference Second Team selection in 2018-19 and Big 12 honorable mention in 2017-18.
Norton on Schneringer: "Kylee is a big guard with a lot of versatility to play different positions on the floor. She is the ultimate team player always looking for the open player. On the defensive end she can guard the perimeter positions and is a lock down defender."
LaMiracle Sims | 6-1 | Forward | Moss Point, Miss. | Jones College
Sims signs her NLI with UAB after two years at Jones College in Ellisville, Miss. While at Jones, she averaged 6.6 rebounds and five points in over 20 minutes a game. Coming out of high school, Sims was ranked the No. 16 forward in the nation by HoopGirlz and averaged a double-double her junior and senior seasons.
Norton on Sims: "LaMiracle is a power player that plays extremely physical down low. She loves to rebound and defend. She is very strong academically as well and is of the highest character. She will be an outstanding addition to our team."
Maddie Walsh | 6-1 | Forward | Hartland, Wisc. | Arrowhead
Walsh is an athletic multi-sport athlete from Hartland, Wisc. that knows what it takes to win in any sport. She is a state champion in the 4x400m relay, a state semifinalist in soccer and a state quarter and semifinalist in basketball. Walsh averaged 13.0 points, six rebounds, four assists and three blocks per game at Arrowhead High School.
Norton on Walsh: "Maddie is a skilled player with the ability to play guard or a stretch four. She has a great motor and plays all-out every time she is on the court. She knows how to knock down the three, play the rim and even post up at times. Her length allows her to create havoc on defense, getting deflections and steals."
