Barnes Named C-USA Co-Player of the Week

DALLAS- Miyah Barnes has been named Conference USA Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week after two career milestone performances against South Alabama and Oklahoma.
In the Blazers opening win against South Alabama, Barnes dropped 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, one steal and dished out a team high six assists. She also recorded her 1,000th career point, making her the 30thBlazer to join the 1,000-point club and just the third with 1,000 points and 400 assists.
Against Oklahoma, Barnes scored a career-best 25 points with five assists and four rebounds in 34 minutes of action. The senior point guard shot 58.8 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range. She sparked a late effort for the Blazers who were down 18 in the third quarter and brought the game within five points after driving through the lane for a layup in the fourth quarter.
Barnes averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 34.0 minutes per game. She shot a combined 51.7 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc in both games.
"Miyah is off to a great start in our first two games," said head coach Randy Norton. "Her best basketball is still in front of her which is very exciting for our team."
Barnes is one of 20 players in the country on the Nancy Liberman Award Watch List for the top point guard in the country.
Barnes shares the honor with Middle Tennessee guard Anastasia Hayes.
It is the first time Barnes has been named C-USA Player of the Week. She was twice named C-USA Freshman of the Week in 2016-17.
