Barnes Named to 2020 Nancy Lieberman Watch List

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- UAB senior point guard Miyah Barnes has been named to the top 20 watch list for the 2020 Nancy Lieberman Award as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
The Nancy Lieberman Award recognizes the top point guard in NCAA Division I women's basketball.
Barnes has been a staple in the UAB line-up since her freshman season playing in 97 games for the Blazers over three years. The senior enters the 2019-20 season nine points shy of the 1,000-point mark in her career and sits at fourth in UAB history in assists (413).
The Memphis, Tenn. native played 1133 minutes last season, the most on the team, averaging 10.9 points and 4.8 assists per game. Barnes recorded 18 double digit scoring performances last season. She led Conference USA in assists (158) and was sixth in the nation in assist/turnover ratio (3.5).
Barnes is a three-time All-Conference honoree and was named to the 2019-20 C-USA Preseason Team last Wednesday. She was named to the C-USA All-Tournament Team last season averaging 21.0 points, 3.0 assists and 2.0 rebounds in the Blazers run to the conference semifinals.
"It is an amazing achievement for Miyah to be considered for such a prestigious award," said head coach Randy Norton. "She is so deserving of recognition but in typical Miyah Barnes fashion she cares more about the success of the team than any award."
The watchlist will be narrowed down to 10 in February and in March, five finalists will be presented to Ms. Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
Previous winners of the Nancy Lieberman Award include Skylar Diggins, Kristi Toliver, Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird.
The winner of the 2020 Liberman Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles, Cali. On Friday, April 10, 2020.
