DALLAS – UAB took home a pair of Conference USA weekly awards today when it was announced that Melissa Cameron was named Defensive Player of the Week and Eve Beyer Goalkeeper of the Week.
The Blazers are coming off a week where they defeated a pair of teams that had a combined record of 20-5-1 in LA Tech and first place North Texas.
Beyer made a total of seven saves in the wins. The only goal allowed was a penalty kick against LA Tech. The freshman's GAA is 0.31 and save percentage is .895, both rank first in C-USA, while her four shutouts is third.
Cameron anchored a defense that held the NCAA's leading goal scorer Autumn Woodward to a pair of shots for a Lady Techsters team that averaged 3.31 goals per match and UNT's leading scorer Berklee Peter without a shot.
"I am extremely happy for the recognition from our conference for Mel and Eve. Both were fantastic this weekend," said head coach Erica Demers. "Mel is a true leader and pushed her game to a whole new level. Eve played like she had two or three years of experience; poised and confident. I am excited for her growth with two conference games under her belt now."
UAB (4-4-4, 2-2-1 C-USA) wraps up the home slate when they host Charlotte on Oct. 17 and Old Dominion on Oct. 20. The final three regular season matches are on the road. WKU on Oct. 25, Southern Miss on Oct. 27 and Middle Tennessee on Nov. 1.
Women's soccer season tickets are on sale by purchasing the 2019-20 Gold Card for $65.
