UAB Closes Texas Swing at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – The (RV) UAB women's basketball team closes its two-game Texas swing on Saturday when it faces UTSA in San Antonio. Tipoff between the Blazers and Roadrunners is set for 1 p.m.
UAB (16-2, 14-1) is off to its best start in school history and is coming off of a 72-48 victory at UTEP on Thursday night. Rachael Childress netted a game high 18 points on six made 3-point field goals. Childress ranks second in the NCAA in 3-point field goal attempts (163), third in 3-point field goals per game (3.9) and has recorded six games this season with six or more 3-pointers.
As a team the Blazers lead Conference USA in assists per game (18.2), assists (328) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6). Miyah Barnes, who recorded her 100th assist of the season at UTEP on Thursday, leads the league in assists per game (5.6) and assists (100), while boasting the third best assist-to-turnover ratio in the nation (3.7).
The Blazers enter Saturday's contest averaging a league leading 78.3 points per game and hold the ninth best scoring margin (+20.8) nationally. UAB has won 13 consecutive C-USA road games dating back to the 2016-17 season.
UTSA (6-10, 1-3 C-USA) is coming off of a 72-52 loss to Middle Tennessee on Thursday night. The Roadrunners average 61.2 points per game, the 11th fewest in the league, while allowing 67.4, the 10th most in the conference.
Marie Benson leads C-USA in rebounding (11.4 per game) and ranks fifth in scoring (16.8 per game). The junior has netted double figures in all but one game this season has four 20 plus point performances.
UAB and UTSA are meeting for just the sixth time in program history on Saturday with the Blazers leading the series 3-2. The winner of Saturday's contest will claim bragging rights in San Antonio as the squads have split their two previous meetings in the Convocation Center.
