Blazer Boosters Surpass $5 Million for the Fourth Straight Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Thanks to the generous support of UAB alumni and friends, the UAB Department of Athletics announced today that Blazer Boosters members contributed more than $5 million in support of UAB student-athletes for the fourth consecutive giving year.
As of December 31, 2018, cash received by Blazer Boosters totaled more than $5.5 million for the 2018 calendar year. In addition, UAB Athletics engaged 650 new Blazer Boosters members who gave in 2018 who had not given in the prior year. Thanks to these new members as well as returning generous supporters, Blazer Boosters finished 2018 with over 1,850 donors for the second straight year.
Blazer Boosters are alumni and friends of UAB who recognize the value of the student-athlete experience. A Blazer Boosters membership is defined as anyone who gives a minimum of $50 to generate funding for student-athlete scholarships, capital projects and facility improvements, and the enhancement of sport specific operating budgets.
"The continued success of Blazer Boosters this year is just another example of the passion Blazer Nation has for UAB Athletics and the desire they have for us to continue to grow and succeed on a national stage," said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "We are grateful for each and every member that helped make 2018 such an exciting year in the history of this department."
In an effort to say 'Thank You' to everyone who supported in 2018, UAB student-athletes will be participating in the Annual Blazer Boosters Thank-A-Thon from January 22-25. Blazer Boosters members from 2018 should prepare for a phone call from a member of one of UAB's eighteen sports teams to show their gratitude.
"It's remarkable to be at a place where people continue to show their support," said Freshman Quarterback, Tyler Johnston. "That support has given me the opportunity to be a champion and get a great education."

The 2019 giving year is underway, and fans have the opportunity to join Blazer Boosters through the IGNITE membership campaign. IGNITE is an initiative to increase the Blazer Boosters membership base, fortify a foundation for continued financial growth, and position UAB Athletics to compete at the highest level of college athletics.
