MOBILE, Ala. – Led by Maria Donado's one-under, the UAB women's golf team shot a collective +12 and is in a tie for 12th place after the opening 18 holes of the USA Intercollegiate at Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Crossings Course.
Donado is currently in a tie for 13th place heading into Tuesday's second round, while Kendall Johnson shot a +2 and is currently tied for 34th.
"I think our score today was decent for our first round of the year, but I know we can do better," head coach Ryan Ashburn said. "We had three holes as a team today that made a big difference for us and I think if we learn from that, the next two days we have a strong chance to move up the leaderboard. Everyone had positives to take away from today and we just need to continue off of that."
Tia Teiniketo was four-over today is tied for 53rd, while Lexie Dawson (+7) and Stephenie Fowler (+8) rounded out UAB's contingency.
Playing as an individual, Kenna Hughes had a solid round and shot a +1 which has her tied for 29th.
Cal Baptist is leading the field at -6, while Hanna Kiefer of Stetson is the individual leader in the clubhouse at -4.
The Blazers return to the course tomorrow for the second round of the USA Intercollegiate. Fans can click here for live results.
