Mathieu Laurent Tabbed to Conference USA Preseason Team

IRVING, Texas – Senior defender Mathieu Laurent of the UAB men's soccer has been named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team, league office announced on Tuesday.
Laurent marks the second consecutive season that a Blazer has been named to the preseason all-conference team after midfielder David Valverde earned the honor last season.
"Mathieu is a great player and a great leader on our team," head coach Mike Getman said. "I am really pleased to see how the other coached in the league recognize his talent."
As a junior, he was named Second Team All-Conference after ranking second on the squad in goals, scoring the game winner in a 2-0 victory over Florida Atlantic on Oct. 17.
The Ontario native has been a three-year captain and his efforts in the classroom have placed him on the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll four times.
UAB begins its 2018 campain with an exhibition match at Clemson on August 14. Kickoff between the Blazers and Tigers is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
