Blazers Earn Team Academic Excellence Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB baseball team earned the 2018 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, the organization announced on Monday.
The award honors high school and collegiate baseball teams coached by ABCA members that post a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2017-18 academic year.
"We are proud of our student-athletes who have been so consistent year in and year out to achieve such a high standard in the classroom," head coach Brian Shoop said. "We are grateful to our academic's staff Fernandez West, Josh Watson and Josh Young for their leadership in the academic arena and appreciative of our players' hard work and commitment to academic excellence."
UAB is one of 50 Division I schools to be recognized this year and is one of only 15 Division I programs to garner the honor since its inception in 2015-16.
Additionally, the Blazers are one of three Conference USA schools to be recognized.
UAB is the only Division I program in the state of Alabama to be recognized all three years and just one of two schools in the state to have earned the honor.
This award comes on the back of the Blazers earning the C-USA Baseball Team Excellence award for having the highest GPA in the league with a 3.20 mark for the 2017-18 academic year.
