BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Athletics recently signed a landmark sponsorship with the members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 136 in Birmingham through IMG-College, the official sponsorship media rights holder for Blazer Athletics. The multi-media sponsorship encompasses all UAB sports beginning in the 2018-19 season and running through the 2020-21 athletic year.
"With the commitment of our members, we'll be one of the largest sponsors of the Blazers. We're seeing the rise of the UAB Athletics and renewed support for the Blazers in the Birmingham community and we're excited to be a part of it," said Bill Blackman, Business Manager for IBEW Local 136. "There is so much in the way of building new facilities and existing facility improvements and our contractors and members feel we can contribute to building world-class facilities for a world-class university and community."
"The IBEW is all about training their members to be the finest electricians in their field. UAB and UAB Athletics strives for excellence every day. This partnership is emblematic of IBEW's and our core mission," said UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. "The apprenticeship training program, continuing education, and Code of Excellence ensures that IBEW members are well-trained so their contractors finish projects on time and on budget, every time. We're thrilled to be have a partner with a shared belief in being the best in their field."
The partnership officially kicks off this Fall when the Blazers take to the field in men's and women's soccer, to the court with women's volleyball, and to the stadium when the Blazers football team kicks off against Savannah State in football on August 30th at Legion Field.
