BIRIMINGHAM, Ala. – In continuation with the look at UAB's 2018 Hall of Fame class, this week highlights the storied career of former women's basketball star Jacque Nero.
A Blazer from 1989-92, one does not have to look far to find Nero's name etched throughout the record books.
The Wrens, Ga., native became UAB's first-ever women's basketball player to earn Conference Player of the Year honors accomplishing the task twice as the Sun Belt Player of the Year in 1991 and the Great Midwest Player of the Year in 1992.
She ranks third all-time in points scored, netting 1,939, for an average of 20.6 points per contest over her three seasons.
Nero was just as dominant on the boards as her 349 rebounds in the 1990-91 season is the third most in a single season, helping her to rank fifth all-time in rebounds per game (9.2) and sixth in total rebounds (875).
After helping UAB earn a share of the Sun Belt Regular Season Title in 1989-90, guiding the Blazers to the Sun Belt Regular Season Championship in 1990-91 and the Great Midwest Regular Season Championship in 1991-92, Nero earned First-Team Honors in each of those seasons as well as being named to the Sun Belt Conference All-Tournament Team in 1990 and 1991.
Nero will be honored Nov. 2 at the Hall of Fame Banquet at The Club and will also be recognized the following day at UAB's football game against UTSA. Click here to purchase a ticket to the 2018 Hall of Fame Banquet.
